Denmark-Latvia Defence Industry Days held in Riga

At the end of October, Riga hosted the Denmark-Latvia Defence Industry Days - an event dedicated to strengthening cooperation between the defence industries of both countries and promoting new initiatives in the field of defence and dual-use technologies.

The event convened representatives from the defence industry, government institutions, and international organisations from Latvia and Denmark. Representing Latvia’s defence and dual-use technology sector, SAPRA - the International Association of Defence Product Manufacturers - and Baltic Photonics participated in the event, contributing to the exchange of experience and strengthening industrial cooperation between Latvia and Denmark.

The Minister of Defence of Latvia, Andris Sprūds, and the Minister of Defence of Denmark, Troels Lund Poulsen, attended the event, underlining the importance of international collaboration and industry engagement in advancing Europe’s defence innovation and security.

The Defence Industry Days were organised by the Defence Corporation of Latvia (VAK) in cooperation with the Embassy of Denmark in Latvia, the Ministries of Defence of both countries, the Danish Chamber of Commerce, and the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA), in close partnership with representatives of Latvia’s defence industry.

Denmark currently holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, with one of its priorities being the strengthening of a secure and resilient Europe. The two countries are long-standing strategic partners in defence - Denmark is a member of the Drone Coalition initiated by Latvia, while the Royal Danish Army battalion serves as part of NATO’s multinational brigade in Latvia, contributing to the defence of the Alliance’s eastern flank.

The event attracted significant attention, engaging around one hundred participants and highlighting the growing potential of cooperation between industry, government, and research sectors within the European defence ecosystem.

The organisers expressed their gratitude to all Latvian and Danish partners, companies, and institutions whose collaboration ensured a meaningful and successful event, further strengthening bilateral ties within the European defence industry network.
