Latvian Night Vision Technology Draws Attention at Deep Tech Atelier 2025
On May 16, 2025, SIA Baltic Photonics took part in Deep Tech Atelier 2025 — the leading science and technology conference in the Baltics, which this year focused strongly on defence innovation, technological sovereignty, and the strengthening of security infrastructure.
Baltic Photonics showcased a Latvian-developed third-generation night vision image intensifier, already being integrated into sniper optics, surveillance systems for armoured vehicles, and pilot-grade vision equipment. Fully designed and manufactured in Latvia, the device meets international military standards and enables high-precision object and movement identification in total darkness.
“This is a clear example of how technologies developed in Latvia can become an integral part of the European defence ecosystem. We are not just building a product — we’re building domestic production capacity and expertise,” emphasized Edgars Zandmanis, Board Member of Baltic Photonics, during discussions with investors, academic institutions, and sector representatives.
Strategic Development with Global Reach
During the conference, Baltic Photonics also highlighted its long-term development plans in Latvia, which include the establishment of new manufacturing infrastructure to support the production of high-precision optical components for both civil and military applications. The initiative, supported by international industry partners, signals growing trust in Latvia’s capability to contribute to Europe’s defence technology landscape.
At the Heart of European Defence Technology
Deep Tech Atelier 2025 emphasized the urgent need for technological autonomy and resilient supply chains in the defence sector. Against this backdrop, the solution presented by Baltic Photonics stood out as a concrete example of local innovation aligned with broader strategic priorities, demonstrating effective collaboration between industry, academia, national defence institutions, and global partners.
Baltic Photonics continues to strengthen Latvia’s position on the European defence technology map — developing high-precision solutions and building a sustainable platform for innovation and cross-sector collaboration.
