Meeting with Representatives of the Danish Embassy: Opportunities in Photonics and Defense Sector Collaboration
Baltic Photonics took part in a meeting with representatives of the Danish Embassy to discuss the role of photonics in modern defense technologies and explore cross-border cooperation between Latvia and Denmark.
A meeting with representatives of the Danish Embassy took place at the SAPRA office in Riga, with the participation of Captain Visti Salomonsen, Defence Attaché to the Baltic States, and Inese Leja Raphael, Senior Commercial Advisor to Latvia and Estonia. The discussion focused on opportunities for cooperation between Latvia and Denmark in the defense and technology sectors, with a particular emphasis on the growing role of photonics in modern security solutions and the potential for public–private collaboration.
The dialogue explored potential cooperation models between defense sector stakeholders in both countries, as well as emerging innovation trends shaping the regional security landscape. Baltic Photonics emphasized the importance of high-precision optical technologies in areas such as unmanned systems, sensor integration, and cybersecurity, highlighting Latvia’s adaptability to evolving technological demands.
Several sector-wide challenges were addressed, including limited market scale, resource constraints, and regulatory barriers for foreign investment. The discussion also underlined the importance of a more flexible public procurement system, predictable financing, and the strengthening of international cooperation to accelerate the development of high-value, competitive solutions.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides expressed a mutual interest in continuing strategic dialogue and identifying specific areas for practical Baltic–Nordic collaboration in photonics and defense innovation.
